THE CROSS

Jim Lewis

There are many things which are inseparably tied to the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by virtue of His death and resurrection that these things are established. Some of these are:

The Bible -  The shed blood of Christ is the “blood of the new testament” (Matthew 26:28). “Where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator” (Hebrews 9:16).

The Church - The church is a blood-bought institution. It is that “which he hath purchased with his own blood” (Acts 20:28). “He gave himself for it [the church, jl]” (Ephesians 5:25).

Salvation - We are saved by the gospel which Paul preached: “…how that Christ died for our sins, according to the scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15:3,4). In Christ, “We have redemption through his blood” (Ephesians 1:7).

Our Resurrection - Christ is “risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept” (1 Corinthians 15;20). “…all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, and shall come forth…” (John 5:28,29).

The Lord's Supper – “For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come” (1 Corinthians 11:26).

Judgment – “He hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead” (Acts 17:31).
