David L. Lipe was born at Charleston, Mississippi, on February 11, 1949.  He is married to the former Linda Wilson of Detroit, Michigan and they have three daughters: Carrie, Rachel, and Nikki.  David and Linda have one grandson, James Kyle Gooch, and four granddaughters, Jessica Nicole Gooch, Olivia Lee Combs, Kate Elizabeth Simpson, and Ellie Claire Simpson.

He is currently professor of Bible, Counseling, and Interdisciplinary Studies and Director of the annual Bible Lectureship at Freed-Hardeman University, Henderson, Tennessee. In February, 2003 he was selected for the rank of Distinguished Professor by the FHU Board of Trustees, an honor that is held for the following three academic years.

David holds the A.A. degree and the third year certificate in Bible from Freed-Hardeman University; the B.A. degree in Bible from Harding University; the M.A. degree in Philosophy of Religion and Christian Apologetics from Harding University Graduate School of Religion; the Ph.D. in Philosophy from The University of Tennessee; the M.S. degree in Counseling from The University of Memphis, and the N.C.C.  He has done additional work at Tennessee Technological University, University of North Alabama, and University of Dallas.

Brother Lipe has been preaching since 1967.  He has done local work in Mississippi and Tennessee.  He currently serves as one of the ministers for the Bethel Springs Church of Christ in Bethel Springs, TN. He holds a number of gospel meetings each year as well as gives lectures on other occasions.  He has participated in two public debates—one with a Presbyterian and another with a United Pentecostal.  He conducts seminars on Christian evidences, Christian ethics, and church growth.  His articles have been published in “The Spiritual Sword,” “The Gospel Advocate,” “The World Evangelist,” and other religious papers.  Also, he has contributed to books such as The Living Messages of the Books of the Old Testament and Your Marriage Can Be Great.  He is author of Values in Thought and Action and In Defense of a Divine Command Morality.  He is co-author of the Lipe-Lewis Debate and Instrumental Music--Faith or Opinion, and editor of the following lectureship books: Reaching the Lost; The Biblical Doctrine of Last Things; Studies in Timothy and Titus; World Evangelism: Finding God’s Way; Worship in Spirit and Truth; Family, Church, and Society: Restoration and Renewal; Settled in Heaven; The Great I AM: Our Unsearchable God; At His Coming; Hearing Wisdom’s Voice: Proverbs at the Millennium; Receiving God’s Righteousness; New Beginnings, God, Man & Redemption in Genesis; Exalting Christ in the Church - Unsearchable Riches in Ephesians-Colossians; When We Hurt - Tragedy and Triumph in Job; Opening Our Eyes to Jesus - From Darkness to Light in Acts; A Light to the Nations - Judgment and Hope in Isaiah; A Call to Faithfulness - Better Things in Hebrews; Hear O Israel -Preserving a Godly Heritage in Deuteronomy.
