How Can We Help?
by Donald Z. Underwood

A Caring people.

We live in a world filled with trials, tribulations and challenges.  Where life seems to have more downs than ups.  In all of the struggles of life, we are here to help.  In Galatians 6:10 we read, As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

Maybe you or someone you know needs food, clothing or words of comfort.  How can we help you or others with the cares and concerns of life?

Someone cares!

In this life, there is someone who cares.  Peter said, Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you (I Peter 5:7).  We do have someone who will listen to all of our cares of life.  Paul wrote to the church at Philippi and said these words, Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6-7).

Someone loves us!

Not only does God care, but He loves us.  John wrote, We love him, because he first loved us (I John 4:19).  God loved us first.  In John 3:16 we read, For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  In both of these passages, it is recorded that God loves us and demonstrated His love via the sacrifice of Christ on the cross.

Outside of Christ.

In the world, we are outside of Christ and without God and His hope.  Paul said, That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world (Ephesians 2:12).  It is not that God cannot hear us nor reach out to us, it is our sin that separates us from our caring and loving Father.  The prophet Isaiah recorded, Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear.  But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear (Isaiah 59:1-2).

Jesus is the answer!

There is no one else that can save people.  In Acts 4:12 we read, Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.  Jesus is the answer for salvation and life.  Jesus said, I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture (John 10:9).  Later, Jesus said unto His beloved apostles, …I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto Father, but by me (John 14:6).

The sacrifice of Christ.

In Romans 5:6, 8-10, For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.  But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.  Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.  For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.  Jesus was crucified for all people.  In John 19:38-42 we read of the process of burying the body of our Lord and Savior.  In Matthew 28:6 we read these immortal words, He is not here: for he is risen, as he said, Come, see the place where the Lord lay.  This is the heart of the very message that we take to the world.  It is this same message that caused Paul to be arrested and taken to Rome.  King Festus thought much learning had made Paul mad (Acts 26:24), because of the truth he taught.

Christians live with hope.

And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust (Acts 24:15).  The Christian’s hope is toward God.  This hope set before us is our anchor in life.  Notice Hebrews 6:18-19, That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:  Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil.  The hope that we have in life is living and real.  Peter said, Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead (I Peter 1:3).
